Planning a sustainable future.

What is the Legacy Project?

The Legacy Project is U.S. Engineering’s effort to form and execute a sustainability plan that will benefit our customers, our communities and our own organization. We’ve been doing the work of sustainability for decades by making our customers’ facilities more efficient. Now the Legacy Project will formalize and expand our efforts, helping us leave our customers, communities and organization better tomorrow than they are today.

What’s Happening?

Tom Poeling, U.S. Engineering Service Director of Energy and Sustainability, is featured in the Jan/Feb issue of Health Facilities Management. The article highlights Poeling’s insights on the challenges and strategies involved in balancing environmental benefits and economic outcomes. Read more and link to the article.

The State of Colorado published Regulation 28, “Building Benchmarking and Performance Standards,” which requires a 20% reduction of GHG in buildings 50,000 sq ft and larger by 2030. Read this article to dive into the details of these new regulations and how they might affect your new construction and renovation projects.

Tom Poeling has been named Director of Energy & Sustainability at U.S. Engineering Service. Tom brings to this new position over three decades of experience in energy efficiency consulting and building commissioning. Read more about it.
Over the last couple years U.S. Engineering companies have been reviewing our own business practices to find ways to improve ourselves on sustainability. We’ve started reporting annually on sustainability; and we’ve formed internal teams to study our facilities, fleet, supply chain, and policy and recommend action.

Recently our Service company established the Energy & Sustainability Team led by Tom Poeling to provide benchmarking, audits, retro-commissioning and other advisory services to our customers. We’re also awaiting the delivery of our first EV fleet truck and expect to expand that electric fleet in the near future.

Insights & News

Sustainability is not a new concept to U.S. Engineering. We have been working on these types of projects for the past several years. Here are some snapshots of where we’re at now and where we’re headed.

Our Carbon Footprint

In order to be Trusted Advisors to our customers, we need to understand how we emit greenhouse gases (GHGs) in our own business. This section describes the types and quantities of GHGs that we have emitted over the past three years.

Success Stories

Current and future customers are looking for a Trusted Advisor to guide them through the process of carbon and emission reduction. These projects illustrate some of our experience with sustainable systems for both new construction and existing buildings.

Policy

The urgency driving the sustainable construction market originates from policies developed by local and state governments. Click here for a short guide to which policymakers are already directly affecting our customer base, and which policy changes are on the way.
